Early Life and Education

Hughie Batherson was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, located on the picturesque island of Cape Breton. Growing up, Hughie was immersed in the stories and traditions of his East Coast heritage, which would later become a cornerstone of his comedic style. As an adult, he embraced the challenge of learning French, reflecting his passion for language and culture.

Hughie's educational journey took him to Université Sainte-Anne and Université de Moncton, where he honed his linguistic skills and cultivated a deep appreciation for the arts. Alongside his studies, he excelled in athletics, playing varsity hockey and fostering a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie. Hughie is a former University Lecturer and Public School Teacher and has completed his Masters in Education with Action/Research in ''The Importance of Humour in our Lives''.

Comedy Career

Hughie’s foray into the world of comedy began as a natural extension of his vibrant personality and storytelling abilities. In fact, his first attempt at Standup Comedy was in a ''Juste pour rire'' competition and he ended up winning!  Over the years, he has become a highly sought-after standup comedian across the Atlantic provinces and beyond. Known for his clean adult material, Hughie's performances are a delightful blend of physical comedy and his signature East Coast storytelling.

He has completed two "Juste pour rire" tours and participated in the renowned Hubcap Comedy Festival. He has captivated audiences in Yukon, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. His bilingual performances in both English and French allow him to connect with a diverse range of audiences, further showcasing his love for language and culture.

In addition to his comedy career, Hughie is an award-winning motivational speaker with over 20 years of experience and also a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers.
